Lahore, the vibrant historical and cultural hub of Pakistan, is set to witness a significant boost in its tourism sector with the introduction of five new hybrid double-decker buses. The Punjab government aims to enhance metropolitan tourism by extending services on new routes, creating a more modern and eco-friendly way for both residents and visitors to explore the city’s numerous historical landmarks.
The route for these three new tourist buses will cover key sightseeing spots, starting from Qaddafi Stadium. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of promoting tourism through such initiatives and stated, “The modern and environmentally friendly buses will be provided for metropolitan tourism throughout Punjab.”
The initiative to launch double-decker buses for tourism in Lahore was initially introduced by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) in November 2015 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Since then, the service has provided a unique and immersive travel experience to a diverse group of passengers, including diplomats, corporate sector representatives, and the general public. The hybrid buses promise to enhance this experience with a focus on sustainability and modernization.
At the launch event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inspected one of the new hybrid buses and took a ride, while officials briefed her on the service’s potential impact. According to sources, the hybrid buses will soon also extend their services to Multan and Faisalabad, helping to elevate tourism in these cities as well.
In parallel with this transportation advancement, the Punjab government is also exploring plans for a Rawalpindi-Lahore High-Speed Train. This proposed rail line would significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, reaching speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour. “If approved, the project will be a significant step forward for Pakistan’s infrastructure,” sources from the provincial government commented.
While the high-speed rail project remains in the proposal stage, its potential to transform travel between Lahore and Rawalpindi holds immense promise for the future. However, as with any ambitious infrastructure project, securing the necessary funding will be a critical challenge.
These developments reflect the government’s commitment to improving both tourism and transportation infrastructure across Punjab, making the region more accessible and appealing for both locals and international visitors.
